The Rainbow Brite Collection

Over these 27 years, I've amassed a rather large collection of dolls, plushes, figurines, books and other assorted goods featuring my most beloved childhood fictional hero, the cartooned 80's icon Rainbow Brite. And while some of the original, hard-to-come-by Rainbow Brite merchandise will be staying with me likely 'til the grave, it's time to let some go. And where better a place to turn loose my vintage goodies than The Let's Go Thrifting Etsy Shop!?

Don't get me wrong, I love these little dolls. But I also value space and the good sense to part with things that I know will serve better belonging to someone who will use them.

So here's a sampling of cheery and colorful Rainbow Brite goods that will soon hopefully make their way to new ownership.

These items and others will be available in the Let's Go Thrifting Etsy Shop.

What beloved treasures of the past are you letting go?

I just love that snow globe. You are going to part with it?

I'm not parting with anything. I can't even throw away a vintage old man sweater I bought 10 years ago that I stopped wearing 8 years ago because it got lots of holes in it. Getting rid of stuff I like would be like getting rid of a friend... even if it isn't useful anymore.

Maybe not a friend, but I feel like I won't feel the same without it. It's rare that I'll get rid of an item that I once enjoyed owning.

Yes, Sir. The time has come to let some things go. It's really a spacial issue. I don't have all the space to properly display these nice things. And I feel that letting them just collect dust in storage boxes isn't doing them justice, ya know?

But don't worry, I'll never get rid of some of my more prized Rainbow Brite possessions...like my Rainbow Brite record player! That's a real treasure and very hard to come by.

Oooh, a Rainbow Brite record player - totally awesome!

And it actually works. The sound isn't top quality, because it's such a novelty item. But it sure is cute. Gotta love eBay!

Love rainbow brite, i picked up a rainbow brite doll at the boot sale a few weeks back. I must admit i've parted with a fair few of my care bears on ebay to make room. Scarlett x

Hi there, Scarlett. It's always a love/hate relationship with finding beloved relics from the 80's. So adorable and a rare treat to find...until you get them home and realize what little space you have to work with!

Nice wares! I had those ubiquitos Rainbow bright sheets everyone born in the 80s seemed to have, but was never big on the show. Always liked Transformers better!

I'm on a huge downsizing kick as a resolution for 2012...and I have a LOT of stuff. The first collection I'm willing to get rid of? Maybe my VHS one. Takes up a lot of space and I can always rent old favorites from libraries when I want them. Or watch them online.

No qualms with that, Lindsey. I still have some of my beloved original Rainbow's that are too precious to let go. I'm just cutting back on a few, ha ha.

Ya know, I need to unload some VHS tapes too, Van. I'm thinking of putting some on my Etsy, but have no idea on the pricing. Sure they're a dated medium. But some of the titles are hard to find...mostly b-movies. Hmm. Time to do some research, I suppose.
